about

The inaugural World Car Free Day event in Tampa in 2023 was a tremendous success, leading to the prestigious Tampa Downtown Partnership Excellence Award for Activating Spaces. We’re thrilled about this recognition and are eager to enhance the event further in 2024.

World Car Free Day is organized in various cities throughout the world in different ways, but with the common goal of highlighting emerging transportation options and reducing the number of cars on the streets. The benefit is a day with less traffic congestion, a greener environment and reduced gasoline demand. Today, World Car Free Day includes celebrations in 46 countries and over 2,000 cities.

Walk Bike Tampa in partnership with the City of Tampa, Tampa Downtown Partnership, Westshore Alliance, Pedal Power Promoters and Sidewalk Stompers will be hosting our 2nd Annual World Car Free Day on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 9am till 2pm.

We are committed to car free spaces that grow inclusivity and diversity, making our communities healthier and more vibrant. Our mission is to nurture and grow car-free spaces and culture in collaboration with local communities.

what to anticipate

Join us for World Car-Free Day and experience Tampa on bike, on foot, or event take transit. There will be three major activity locations at Midtown, Encore, and HCC Ybor Plaza. Various activities uniquely programmed for each location will be experienced such as: vendors, urban market, entertainment, food trucks, chalk art, pickleball, children’s activities, and community organizations.

In addition, new in 2024, there will be three neighborhood Meet-UP locations at The Heights – Seminole Heights; Live Oaks – East Tampa; and Hyde Park-South Tampa. The Meet-Up locations will be a great place to meet other participants and ride a bike together to the three major activity locations. Riding in groups provides greater visibility, a learning experience, and is safer for all.

For World Car Free Day, you have three great meet-up locations to choose from. You can connect with neighbors at Spaddy’s Coffee Co. in The Heights, Buddy Brew in Hyde Park Village, or at Woodland Terrace Park. To make the most of your visit, plan to arrive early and support local businesses. Make sure to follow the World Car Free Day signs to guide you along bike-friendly routes to your selected spot.
